Fitness Fashion ....

FASHIONABLE AND FUNCTIONAL

A good pair of sneakers.....how important is it?

Essentially without the appropriate sneakers for designated workout activity one can end up with significant injuries.  When I first started my fitness journey I dusted off an old pair of sneakers stored at the back of my closet and hit the road.....my oh my goodness.... two days later I had the most excruciating pain in my shins and heels.  After visiting my Dr. he advised rest and invest in a new pair of sneakers.

I quickly threw those shoes out and purchased a pair of Nike revolution 3.

Thus far this sneaker has exceeded my expectations with respect to comfort...........do you have a pair of sneakers that you just love???

Gadgets!!!!

 FITBIT

So the Fitbit is one of my most recent discoveries....this helpful little gadget helps to track your physical activity.  It is designed to help one become more active, eat more well rounded meals, sleep better therefore ensuring that we become healthier human beings....

The company has five different models:

  • Fitbit flex2
  • Alta
  • Charge 2
  • Surge
  • Blaze.

The video below shows some info on the various Fitbits.......

The one you choose will depend on your needs e.g. price, colour.

I like the Fitbit Flex 2 because it's water resistant so it can me worn in the shower etc.......below is a link that reviews the product a bit more......

Feel free to tell me about your favorite activity tracker........

Exercise

The FACTS........In 2013 Trinidad and Tobago ranked 6th amongst all the countries worldwide with 30% of its population being obese additionally, we topped the scale in the Caribbean.  Unfortunately for me I fell in this percentile as my body mass index (BMI) is currently over 30 which puts me at risk for high blood pressure, diabetes and so much more.

THE WAKE UP CALL............😨😨😨

My focus is now to increase weight loss by incorporating cardio at least 5 days a week and weight training 3 days a week.....

Last year I completed my first 5K......I'll definitely be looking at incorporating more of these.

Diet

ALL THE EXERCISE IN THE WORLD WON'T HELP WITH WEIGHT LOSS IF NUTRITION IS OUT OF WHACK!!!!!

As such, application of the 80/20 rule is important for successful weight loss i.e. 80% diet 20% exercise.

Myfitnesspal will be used to aide in recording daily meals, the goal here is to keep calorie intake at 1200 daily.

It is important not to under eat as well.

My meals usually consist of breakfast, lunch, dinner and two to three snacks depending on the length of my day.

6-7am  Breakfast - Protein (three egg whites/sardines/tuna etc.), salad, greens e.g. ochro, spinich, dasheen bush, oatmeal and green tea.

10am   Snack - Apple or Greek yogurt.

12pm    Lunch - Protein (Fish, Chicken), Salad, Vegetables and Beans.

2pm       Snack - a handful of nuts.

6pm       Dinner - Protein and Salad.

On gym days I have noticed that I must consume something before work out to ensure that I do not feel light headed. I usually go with a banana, and some black coffee.

Remember to eat like a King for breakfast and a Pauper at dinner.

My Story

So everyone I am required to do a blog as part of my MBA as such, I've chosen to do a fitness blog since my weight has always been a challenge.

Below is an OLD PHOTO of me taken approximately FOUR years ago when I was at my ideal weight.  Having always been a "thick" chick as we "Trinis" call it the battle to control my weight has been a constant one.

Over the last three years I gained over 50 lbs due to poor eating habits after surgery. I seem to be loosing this battle after falling off the proverbial wagon on numerous occasions.....😞  As such, I hired a serious personal trainer who will assist in helping me stay focused and consistent....πŸ˜€

My weakness is sweets...... specifically chocolate in any variety......ice cream, fudge, cake you name it I'm there......therefore, my focus will be to kick this sweet tooth to the curb....eat healthy, up my water intake and focus on being healthyπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ.

So guys......here we go wish me luck  as I kick start this journey and feel free to commentπŸ’on my posts........Let me know your fitness plans....... πŸ€πŸŽΎπŸŽ½πŸŠ.
